Dance

The Allegro Dance program is designed to give students the competitive edge they need to land the roles for which they audition. "The ensemble are fierce triple-threat performers these days, and competition is high," Diane Laurenson in an article in Dance Informa. "You must immerse yourself in all styles, starting with ballet for a strong base, then continuing on in jazz, theatre, tap, modern, hip-hop, ethnic, and ballroom. They all round out your dance experience."

We are not training classical ballerinas, although there is a strong ballet presence in the program. Students will find instruction in all genres to build their skill set giving students that edge needed.

The dance instructor, Cecilia Dohm has a background in ballet, and expanded on her education to include modern dance and choreography. Cecilia has performed on stage at the Kennedy Center with American Ballet Theatre, alongside Misty Copeland, Julie Kent, Julio Boca, Paloma Herrera, and many others. She has also attended intensives working under Laura Glenn senior faculty at Juilliard, Megan Williams former member of Mark Morris Dance Group, and Paul Dennis former member of José Limón Dance Company. Cecilia often participated in The Ailey School classes, including Horton, African Dance, and Ballet.

Cecilia has also worked in the Dance Programming at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. There she assisted in the daily operations, programming, and management of Millenium Stage Dance Performances, visiting dance companies including: The Bolshoi and Paris Opera Ballet, and the Kennedy Center’s own resident company The Suzanne Farrell Ballet (which saw its last performance in 2017), often working alongside Suzanne Farrell herself.

Cecilia has choreographed pieces for a number of musicals within Fauquier County Public Schools. She is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health from The College of William and Mary. She delighted to call Allegro her home!
