Allegro is proud to announce THRIVE, an exuberant, intergenerational program of music and arts designed specifically for folks over the age of 55, who want to live their senior years with gusto, optimism, a sense of belonging, and friendships. In partnership with Fauquier Health, we aim to bring the arts to ALL generations by instilling Creative Aging principles and harnessing proven psychological research for older adults.

We welcome all comers, especially those who have never before participated in an arts program. THRIVE classes cover a variety of genres and levels to accommodate all body and intellectual abilities. Proper technique and quality of instruction are always at the forefront of our teaching methodology. Whether you are relearning and old skill or learning a new one, we aim to encourage learning in an inviting environment where everyone is a star.

In numerous studies, people who participated in learning an art (like playing an instrument) found they:

THRIVE: Classes for Older Adults

These classes are meant as exercise classes to improve quality of life for older adults with limited mobility and/or specific neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, Dementia, and Alzheimer's. These classes are not offered/led as group therapy dance-movement, physical, music, and/or drama therapy sessions aimed at treatment and diagnosis. Volunteers are present in all classes to assist in standing, sitting, and serving as a helpful friend if needed. For safety and complete attention and care to all of our students, please be aware of the descriptions of each course to verify if you qualify for enrollment.  

Community Choir

Sing your way through classical and contemporary choir pieces. Members will learn to read music, gain an understanding in proper vocal technique. There will be a time of social interaction. This is an inter-generational choir. Caregivers, children and grandchildren are all welcome.

Dance for PD

In Dance for PD® classes, participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative. In class, teachers integrate movement from modern, ballet, tap, folk and social dancing, and choreographic repertory to engage participants’ minds and bodies and create an enjoyable, social environment for artistic exploration. Wheelchairs, walkers, chairs, caregivers are welcome to participate too! This class is open to those specifically diagnosed with Parkinson's, for their caregivers, and family members. This is an enriching class FOR ALL who are involved in the world of Parkinson's.  

Dance for PD

This is an Allegro original THRIVE movement class for those without neurological diagnosese (Parkinson's, Dementia, Alzheimers, etc). Students will engage in a variety of techniques including ballet, tap, jazz, and musical theater. Class begins seated, and moves onto standing, then across the floor. All sections of the class include a variety of modifications for all movement abilities. Wheelchairs, walkers, chairs, caregivers are welcome to participate too!  

THRIVE for Alzheimer's & Dementia

This is an Allegro original THRIVE movement class for those diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer's. Narrative storytelling through movement provides a joyful reawakening of the heart and mind. Wheelchairs, walkers, chairs, caregivers are welcome to participate too! Caregivers and/or a family member are required to attend class.

*We understand that some older adults are on a fixed income.

Financial aid and a sliding scale allows all who wish to participate in classes the opportunity.
