Introducing: Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts
Sometimes a new name is the start of something new.
Ours isn’t.
Our new name isn’t about where we hope Allegro will grow in the future. Instead, it’s about who we are today.
Allegro Community School of the Arts has been evolving alongside the students, artists, teachers, families, and community we served for the last 22 years. What started as an early childhood program, developed into so much more. Today, Allegro is a place where people:
Learn
Rehearse
Perform
Create
Collaborate
Gather
Experience the performing arts
Our name had never caught up with what Allegro had become.
Until now.
Today, we’re excited to share our new name that truly describes who we are:
Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts
Or as we'll usually call it, The Allegro Centre
This isn’t something we’re planning to do in the future. We’re not launching a new mission or reinventing ourselves. We already are doing it.
Every day at Allegro dancers take their first ballet class while more advanced students rehearse for a performance in another class room. Private music lessons fill our studios. Choirs make music together. Theatre students learn their craft and develop productions. Students and teachers collaborate. Audience members arrive to see a performance. And with the opening of our new Backlot Theatre, artists and students also have a beautiful new performance space right inside Allegro.

That’s not just a school. That’s a performing arts centre.
The School Is Still at Our Core
At Allegro, we’re still “All About the Kids.”
Our school programs, including dance, music, theatre and vocal, will always be the heart of our community. These programs give students a place to learn, grow and explore their passions for the performing arts.
But our school is just one part of who we are. We’re also:
A performance venue
A rehearsal space
A creative home for artists
A place where artists and audiences connect
A place where students gain the confidence and skills they need in the classroom and then get the opportunity to showcase those skills on stage

The name Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts gives a home to everything that Allegro has become.
Why “Centre?”
We didn’t choose that name lightly. At Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts, we really are a centre.
A centre is where artists come together: Students and Teachers. Artists and Audiences. Dance and Music. Theatre and Voice. Education and Performance. Beginners and Experts.
A name to give value to those five-year-olds taking nervous first steps as well as the professional artists who spend their lives helping students take those first steps.
That’s what happens here, every day. They all come to the centre.
The Allegro Centre Has Room For Everyone
The Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts has big dreams for the future. If you’re familiar with us, you know we like to "do a thing."
But our new name isn’t something we’re waiting on. We don’t need to build another facility, add another theatre, create another program or hit another milestone before we can introduce our new name.
We are the Allegro Centre. Right now.
Our name just gives us a way to share what we’ve become over the last two decades.
Here at Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts, we have room for the classroom AND the stage. We make space for education AND performance. We provide opportunities for the five-year-old taking the first nervous step into our studios and the professionals who teach those students how to shine on stage.
We have room for what Allegro was, what Allegro is, and everything Allegro will become.
You might see a new name. But you’re not meeting a new Allegro. We’re the same group of people who have poured our hearts into teaching, inspiring, and building this community. We’ve just got a new name that fits.
Welcome to the Allegro Centre for the Performing Arts.
Welcome to the Allegro Centre.
Let the arts surprise you.
