Allegro Launches National honor society for Dance Arts Chapter

Updated: 7 days ago

We are thrilled to announce that Allegro is now an official chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA)—with both a Junior Chapter for middle school students (grades 6–8) and a Secondary Chapter for high school students (grades 9–12)!

Beginning September 1, 2025, Allegro dancers will have the opportunity to earn recognition for their artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in dance. This prestigious honor society, established by the National Dance Education Organization, celebrates students who excel both in the studio and in their communities.

Members will work toward induction by accumulating participation points through performances, choreography, leadership roles, and community service, while also maintaining strong academics and demonstrating exceptional character.

Our first induction ceremony will be held in April 2026, when we will proudly recognize our inaugural class of inductees—students whose dedication, talent, and passion for dance inspire us all.

By opening both a Junior and a Secondary Chapter, Allegro provides a pathway for dancers to be recognized throughout their educational journey, from middle school through high school graduation. It’s one more way we support our mission to nurture confident, creative, and committed young artists.

Stay tuned for details on how to get involved, point tracking, and special events as we embark on this exciting new chapter in Allegro’s story!

NHSDA at Allegro – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA)? The NHSDA is a program of the National Dance Education Organization that recognizes middle and high school students for outstanding achievement in dance, leadership, and academics. It’s a national honor, much like the academic National Honor Society, but focused on the artistry and discipline of dance.

Who can join Allegro’s chapters?

  • Junior Chapter: Open to Allegro dancers in grades 6–8.

  • Secondary Chapter: Open to Allegro dancers in grades 9–12.

Students must earn the majority of their points through Allegro’s programs, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate strong character and leadership.

How do students get inducted? Induction is based on a point system:

  • Junior Chapter: 15 points required (10 earned at Allegro).

  • Secondary Chapter: 30 points required (20 earned at Allegro).

Points are awarded for a wide range of dance activities, including performances, choreography, community service, assisting classes, and more.

When will inductions happen? Our first induction ceremony will be in April 2026, celebrating students who meet all requirements by that date. After that, inductions will typically be held twice a year.

What are the benefits of joining NHSDA?

  • National recognition for your achievements in dance.

  • An official certificate of induction.

  • The opportunity to wear an NHSDA gold pin (all inductees) and blue/white honor cords (graduating seniors).

  • Leadership roles within the chapter.

  • Eligibility for national scholarships and awards.

  • A prestigious addition to college applications and resumes.

How do I get started? Starting September 1, students can request a point tracking packet from the Chapter Sponsor and begin logging their dance activities. Keep your GPA strong, participate fully, and look for opportunities to lead, create, and serve.

Who is the Chapter Sponsor? Lachelle Yoder, Program Director and Shania Duane, Director of Dance, will serve as Allegro’s NHSDA Chapter Sponsors, will guide students through the process, answer questions, and oversee inductions.

Why is Allegro offering both Junior and Secondary Chapters? By offering both levels, we can recognize dancers as they grow—from middle school beginnings to high school achievements—encouraging a long-term commitment to excellence in dance.

We can’t wait to celebrate the first group of Allegro dancers who will join the ranks of the

National Honor Society for Dance Arts in April 2026. This is your year to shine—let’s dance toward that goal together!
