Tommy Cummins

Cadets Strings Class

Thomas Cummins is the orchestra, guitar, and music theory teacher at Fauquier High School. In May 2023, he graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Tech with a M.A. in Education and a B.A. in Music Education.



While at Virginia Tech, Cummins worked for the Virginia Tech String Project (VTSP), a program designed to provide high-quality orchestra education to the New River Valley community. As a student teacher and the assistant director for VTSP, he taught and led numerous string ensembles, ranging from beginner to advanced groups.



In Spring 2023, Cummins served as a student teacher at Patrick Henry High School and Grandin Court Elementary School in Roanoke, Virginia. Here, he taught high school orchestra and 4th-5th grade strings under his supervising teacher, Jeff Midkiff. In November 2022, Cummins was awarded the Inaugural “Future Music Educator” Award by the Virginia String Teachers Association.



During the summer, Cummins works as an assistant swim coach and pool manager at Fauquier Swim Club in Warrenton, Virginia.
