In this workshop-style class, students will draw on various dance skills to create original choreography to selected music. This class will challenge the students to find inspiration anywhere and to think outside of the box as they strengthen their creativity. The instructor guides the dancers through the entire choreography experience: framing a setting/image/or mood, selecting music and breaking it down into counts, creating movement, and composing the piece via choreographic concepts. Dancers may split into smaller groups for improvisation and practice. Students must be enrolled in ballet and at least one other hour of technique class a week in order to participate in the class. With a strong emphasis on modern/contemporary and lyrical dance skills, students should have exposure to the intermediate levels of at least one of these dance disciplines to benefit from this class.
Participation in this class is by invitation only as it is an advanced class. High School age.
