Our Policies
Respect and Courtesy
At the Allegro C.S.A. we have worked hard to create a sense of community; an environment conducive to learning. We strive to demonstrate the esteem in which we hold your art, our teachers and our fellow students. Considerate, respectful behavior is expected and is especially important for performing artists.
The School expects that all teachers, students and parents will model acceptance and kindness toward all people and will insist that the highest standard of behavior will be upheld.
Attendance and Make-up Policies
Private Instruction: Regular attendance is expected of all students. Make-up lessons will be offered for lessons missed due to School closure or instructor absence. Instructors are not obligated to and may be unavailable to conduct a make-up lesson for lessons missed due to student absence, but may do so as a courtesy. All arrangements for make-up lessons must be made directly through the instructor.
Classes and Ensembles: In the event of classes or rehearsals missed due to school closure, classes will be added to the end of the semester. Students in a dance or art class may attend an alternate day to make up for a class missed due to student absence with prior permission from the Instructor.
Cancellation Policy
Allegro C.M.S. offers instruction throughout a 36-lesson academic school year and 12-week summer semester. Unless registering for a class or ensemble with a specific start and end date, registration assumes commitment for the school year. To end lessons, please inform the School Registrar in writing with 2 weeks of notice for the final lesson in order to receive a tuition refund for prepaid tuition.
Snow Days and Emergency Closings
Allegro Community School of the Arts does not follow a particular school system’s closure policy for inclement weather. Notice of Allegro’s scheduling response to inclement weather will be posted on the Allegro website, recorded on the outgoing message for the administrative office telephone, and sent in a mass email to all registered students.
Prompt Arrival for Instruction
In order to make the most of every class and lesson, students should arrive to the School and be prepared and ready to enter the classroom at least 5 minutes prior to the beginning of class.
Instrumental/Vocal Student Responsibilities
Instrument and Materials: Each student is responsible for providing an Allegro Educator-approved instrument of study. Please contact the Allegro Office for local rental resources or for suggestions in purchasing instruments. Additional materials (workbooks in theory, technique, or note-reading, etc.) may be suggested for each student, as the instructor provides individual assessment. Supplemental performance materials are highly encouraged for student interest. Contact the student’s teacher or the Allegro office for suggestions.
Piano/Keyboard Instrument Requirements: The piano faculty strongly recommends that every Allegro piano student have regular access to a standard and well-maintained acoustic piano. If families of beginning piano students already own a digital piano, and are unable to afford an acoustic piano, their digital piano should have 88 keys with graded action to reproduce key weight and dynamic range of an acoustic piano, and the piano keyboard should have an ample stand to allow a proper sitting position and have a functional damper pedal.
Practice: Regular practice time is absolutely essential to the growth and development of each musician. Appropriate practice goals will be determined by each Allegro Educator at the time of enrollment based on the age and experience of the student. For younger students, parental involvement in the daily practice routines of the students is crucial.
Dance Student Responsibilities
Attire: Requirements for student attire are clearly defined for each class; students are expected to wear proper street clothing and shoes when arriving and leaving the Allegro Dance Hall- including when walking through the Lobby or throughout the Allegro campus. Dance shoes should never be worn outside or on concrete or asphalt surfaces. No jewelry is permitted during and dance class.
Food/Beverages: No gum-chewing, food, or drinks are permitted in the Allegro Dance Hall, with the exception of water bottles.
Concentration: The Allegro Dance Hall is a place to work quietly and with concentration. Students must enter the Hall quietly and with respect to fellow students.
Communication: In today’s world of instant informality and less than perfect manners, ballet class provides an oasis of true courtesy and dignity. Students are expected to remain quiet during class and always address the Instructor with respect and courtesy.
To Parents of Ballet Students: Ballet teaching requires physical contact between the teacher and the students. The student who wants to improve appreciates verbal or physical corrections. Actual physical contact is essential to the proper teaching of ballet. Proper ballet training happens only when the student feels the correct body position and in most cases that requires the teacher place the body into position. This can cause muscular discomfort. It is not unusual for a dancer to come home with sore muscles just as participants in any sport or physical activity might do. Communication and education for both dancers and parents is very much a part of our program. Parents are welcome to observe class and speak to the teacher regarding any special concerns.
Art Student Responsibilities
Materials: Students are responsible for knowing which materials are needed for weekly classes; some replacement materials are available if needed.
Concentration: Have fun in class! But please keep noise to a respectful minimum when the Instructor is speaking.
